Tube flanging

Form a flange directly from the tube end. Compare F-200, F-400 and F-420e, then select the process, tooling and workpiece supports.

F-420e — one of the machines in the flanging family.
F-420e — one of the machines in the flanging family.

A tube end prepared for a flange joint

In flanging, the tube end is formed into a flange that works with a suitably selected loose backing flange and gasket. In a suitable application, this can replace welding on a weld-neck flange. Assessment covers geometry, material, edge condition and the complete joint requirements.

Three models, selected for the application

F-200, F-400 and F-420e belong to the same process family. Selection depends on the workpiece range, required operation, machine version and production organisation.

3 items

Select 2–3 models from the same technology family to compare.

F-200 — example manufacturer configuration.

Industrial machine

F-200

F-200 forms a flange directly on the tube end. Cold or hot forming, tools and supports are selected for the material, wall thickness and flange joint geometry.

F-420e — tube flanging machine. HOT process equipment is selected separately.

Industrial machine

F-420e

F-420e prepares the tube end for a joint with a loose backing flange. Electric servo drives and stored programmes support repeatable flanging. Cold or hot forming is selected for the material, diameter and wall thickness.

Industrial machine

F-400

F-400 prepares flanged ends on Ø42.4–419 mm tubes. The COLD or HOT configuration is selected for the material and wall thickness; handling is selected for the workpiece length and weight.

Selection with TARGA

What should you prepare?

  • Material, grade, outside diameter and wall thickness.
  • Flange drawing: width, face profile, radii and required finish.
  • Tube length, bends and weight, and the support arrangement.
  • Backing flange, gasket, joint operating conditions and acceptance requirements.

Before you choose

Is F-200 included in the range?

Yes. F-200 has its own catalogue page and can be compared with F-400 and F-420e. Working range and equipment are confirmed for the application.

Does flanging remove all welding operations?

It can replace flange welding at the tube end being assessed. Other joints and operations follow the complete product design.

How can we compare costs with our current process?

We compare material, flanges, preparation, welding, machining, inspection and handling time. Calculations use the customer’s production data.
